Important information about Barbour
Barbour will update their platform on 3rd September 2026. You will still be able to use your NHS Scotland OpenAthens login details - this page will be updated to reflect any changes. Barbour offers resources relating to estates & facilities, environmental health, food safety, fire safety, and wellbeing in the workplace. The subscriptions includes access to British Standards.
To sign in and get access users need to link their NHS Scotland Open Athens account to the resources.
To register with Barbour:
Using the library search go to Barbour.
The first time you access the resources you will be directed to a sign in page.
Type NHS Scotland into the main search box, and when it is listed choose this as your institution.
Please select NHS Scotland as your institution even if you are based elsewhere for example a local authority or social care organisation.
You will be taken to the NHS Scotland OpenAthens sign in box.
On your first visit you will be asked to complete a registration form.
On follow up visits to the Barbour resources you will see NHS Scotland already active as your institution.
Confirm this as your institution and proceed to the OpenAthens sign in page.
